scouting report J. Gilmore
01/30/18 In a city known for cheesesteaks, Tony Luke’s stands head and shoulders above the rest. My sister moved to Philly when I was ten, and ever since Tony Luke’s has been my go to cheesesteak place. On my most recent visit over New Year’s weekend I decided to test out some other spots on top of my trip to Tony Luke’s. I ended up having six cheesesteaks from five different places over the course of my three-day stay. It was clear after my sampling of cheesesteaks that Tony Luke’s was indeed the cheesesteak king of Philly. I order mine American without. The steak is thinly sliced and perfectly seasoned with the cheese melted evenly throughout. The roll has the perfect crunch on the outside and remains soft on the inside allowing it to soak up the juices from the steak without getting soggy, resulting in the ultimate combination of steak, cheese and bread. Every bite is better than the last and it’s nearly impossible to only eat one. When you’re in Philly and craving a cheesesteak look no further than Tony Luke’s on E Oregon Ave.
