Second State is a small coffee shop in the heart of downtown Charleston. It’s a little off the beaten path so it doesn’t get as busy as other coffee shops on the peninsula, despite being far superior. They have a town of creative coffee flavors like lavender or honey, but their brown sugar syrup is the perfect complement to an iced latte. The brown sugar iced latte perfectly balances enough sweetness to cut the bitterness of the espresso, without being overpoweringly sweet like a typical flavoring. The espresso beans are well roasted, giving the latte a rich coffee flavor, without feeling too strong. All in all, the best coffee option in downtown Charleston and I’d go out of my way to stop by when possible.
