04/29/18 The Little Goat is the diner concept of Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard. Izard's Little Goat, Duck Duck Goat (Chinese food), and Girl & the Goat (flagship high-end restaurant) are all located within a couple blocks of one another in the West Loop. I went to brunch at Little Goat with family and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I opted for This Little Piggy Went to China - a really different take on a breakfast biscuit sandwich. It had all the usual ingredients, but they were all a little more adventurous than the typical version and there were some added elements that make this one of the best breakfast dishes I've had in recent memory. The biscuit has cheddar and sesame seeds in it and is extremely buttery and moist, and stands up well to the other items that are loaded onto it. On top of the lower biscuit half is szechuan pork. This sausage is bigtime. The chilis in the sausage give it a reasonable spice, but also a numbing quality. Really, really good, and quite unexpected on a breakfast sandwich. On top of the sausage patty is a sunny side up egg, topped with a sweet and spicy chili sauce. Also sprinkled on are goosberries; their juicy and sour qualities go a long way towards freshening up the otherwise rich and spicy dish. Other dishes at the table were the Okonomiyaki (Japanese street food scallion pancake) and a couple burgers, all of which were awesome. I've been to this spot at all hours of the day and night (open until midnight on weekends) and the food is always great and the atmosphere is always lively.
