scouting report S. Be
03/31/18 The name on the restaurant says it all. This place is known for one thing and everyone is lining up to get it. The Peking Duck ($43) at Peking Gourmet Inn in Falls Church, VA is a beloved institution in this area. And the star of the show did not disappoint one bit. We ordered two ducks for the table and each one was carefully sliced by a trained “duck master” table side. The master cuts each duck breast, leg and crispy skin to the perfect consistent size and plates it in the center of the table while you’re mesmerized by his/her craftsmanship. You’re given sides of green onions, cucumber, soy marinated green chilies, hoisin sauce and paper thin flat bread used to wrap all the ingredients up into delectable rolled Bites. The roasted duck is moist with a texture of a medium rare steak sliced thinly. The crispy skin has a little crunchy chew and each bite releases the natural duck fat and soy, spice marinate from the roasting method. Sweetness comes from the hoisin sauce and extra crunch and freshness is delivered by the cucumber and green onion slivers. For a little heat, the soy marinated green chilies are the perfect addition. I could go on and on about this simple, yet refined dish but my stomach is growling from just typing up this description. Combined with the wonderful service and other great menu items, the Peking Duck at Peking Gourmet Inn is a can’t miss experience.
